Canopies and Awnings: £1Million project to fit 350 Store Fronts in 6 Weeks for News UK Agents
Updated: Dec 23, 2021

"We set ourselves and Kaydee an extremely tough challenge and everyone delivered on this huge undertaking." Neil Spencer Director of retail sales News UK
The Project
In 2014, News UK mounted a major campaign to help Britain's independent newsagents boost the sales of their News UK titles, including The Sun, The Times, and The Sunday Times. The project involved thousands of News Agents across Britain; of which Kaydee was responsible for fitting roughly 500 of these stores, with striking branded awnings for either The Sun or The Times titles.
Kaydee won the contract, worth £1 Million, partly due to our commitment to delivering our client's request with a fast turn around. The bulk of the program was completed within a 6 week period – with over 350 shops refitted in that period.
The Process
Kaydee was contracted to survey each store and manufacture the awning to meet their specific requirements. The awnings themselves were manufactured from coloured PVC, sometimes as wide as 7000mm, which was stretched over an aluminium frame. Red PVC for the Sun awnings, and black for the Times.
The Kaydee team would then install them on the store fronts, managing whatever conditions and circumstances at each site. Additionally, the contract also required the refurbishment of electrical equipment if the awnings were motorised or if lighting was involved which presented it's own set of challenges.
The Results
A large proportion of the retailers who received this facelift, report increases in sales due to more attractive shop fronts and better laid out interiors. Additionally News UK were happy with how Kaydee met their needs and the timing and standard of the work done impressed the client.
